Posie's Poultry
Posie’s Poultry was really the start of it all. Both our Grandparents and fathers grew up with Urban Chickens- even going as far as supplying eggs for the markets for all of South Tacoma area. We decided to raise our kids with the experiences of raising their own food- from doing the chores to cooking their food. Here in the Puget Sound, we started with a hatchery assortment of egg laying chicks and went from there.

About our Poultry
Posie’s Poultry raises an assortment of back yard chickens and ducks. We have grown our flock to the legal limit in our area, focusing primarily on large brown egg layers, meat broilers, and multi-purpose ducks.
Chickens
Our laying chickens are Rhode Island Reds, bred specifically to be resistant to disease and genetic problems. Animal Husbandry, not Animal Science resulted in a hearty, friendly flock of chickens. Our reds lay daily and enjoy all natural feed, table scraps, and free range goodies. We have also started a flock of Barred Rock hens- one of the original backyard birds.
Ducks
Noisy poultry is a nuisance to neighbors. We work to build communities, not barriers. As a result we have chosen to raise Muscovy ducks. Muscovy ducks are a large breed duck that are “non-callers”. Native to Mexico and Central America, Muscovy ducks are roosting ducks and require very little water compared to Mallard derived ducks. Even though Muscovy ducks can quack, they limit their conversations to hisses and quiet chirps making them ideal backyard urban ducks. Muscovy ducks also are leaner than most duck varieties, giving you a red meat with lower levels of fats compared to commercial beef.
Eggs
Most varieties of urban chickens will lay one egg every day and a half, giving you approximately 5 eggs per week per hen. Ducks will lay about the same. Duck eggs are higher in fat than the chicken eggs, but the egg whites of the ducks make the best meringues, giving more volume than a chicken egg white can ever produce. Never had a freshly laid egg? You will notice immediately the difference in color, body and flavor. You can never go back to store bought!
Feed
We carry a full line of poultry feed through Shoreline Farm Supply. All natural blends of local grains made here in Washington- 16% protein for chickens and 19-20% protein for the ducks. We also carry 5# bags of grit and oyster shells- all delivered in the Puget Sound area for no extra charge. Check out our Supplies page for more info.
